C14 Radiocarbon Dating - Sample - SUERC-10840

Sample CH06#30 Context 462 Floor 462 in House 401 (the sixth floor in the middle roundhouse). Deposit of laminated black and orange lenses of peat ash forming a floor layer above fill layer 463 and sealed by fill layer 469. Site Phase 14. The carbonised barley grain is most likely to have been deposited as the result of activities within the house in which material became charred from contact with the hearth fire. Very little time is likely to have elapsed between the seed's charring and its incorporation into the archaeological context of the floor deposit.
