Sample CH06#10 Context 2476 Floor layer 2476 in House 2477 (floor of cigar-shaped house below House 801 at south end of excavation). Deposit of laminated black and orange lenses of peat ash forming a floor layer above windblown sand layer 3398 and the fill (2836) of a pit, and sealed by windblown sand layer 431. Site Phase 7. The carbonised barley grain is most likely to have been deposited as the result of activities within the house in which material became charred from contact with the hearth fire. Very little time is likely to have elapsed between the seed's charring and its incorporation into the archaeological context of the floor deposit.
