Sample CH06#63 Context 923 Midden layer 923 in Area C (the midden and double roundhouse northwest of the main excavation). Deposit of bone-rich grey sand forming a midden layer near the top of the upper midden sequence. It lies on top of midden layer 924 and is sealed by midden layer 931. Site Phase 12. The sheep astragalus is most likely to have been deposited as the result of butchery activities elsewhere on the settlement. Very little time is likely to have elapsed between the sheep's death and the articulated bone's incorporation into the archaeological context of the midden.
