Sample CH06#40 Context 2003 Floor layer 2003 in House 1370 (third floor in northern roundhouse). Deposit of laminated black and orange lenses of peat ash forming a floor layer above fill layer 1774 and windblown sand 1205. It is sealed by fill layer 1644. Floor layer 2003 accumulated after the burial of an infant (GU-9836; 1260-920 cal BC). Site Phase 10. The cow's right femur is most likely to have been deposited as the result of activities within the house in which butchered bones were brought in from outside. Very little time is likely to have elapsed between the cow's death and the incorporation of this femur with unfused epiphysis into the archaeological context of the floor deposit.
