Sample CH06#24 Context 655 Floor 655 in House 401 (the third floor in the middle roundhouse). Deposit of laminated black and orange lenses of peat ash forming a floor layer above fill layer 800 and sealed by fill layer 659. Site Phase 11. The left deer metacarpal and articulating animal bones are most likely to have been deposited on the floor as a result of activities within the house in which butchered bones were brought indoors. Very little time is likely to have elapsed between the animal's death and the metacarpal's incorporation into the archaeological context of the floor deposit.
