Return to Index

Scottish Radiocarbon Database

AA-21248

Leather from inside the wattle lined pit 1, beneath a cover of packing stones in a clay matrix. The sample was lying on top of a sandy/silty deposit which contained no organic remains. Once constructed the wattle lined pit (c-14 date GU-4094 ) could have been lined with skin and used to hold water, rubbish food etc. or it may have been used in part of the process used to prepare animal skins. Hale 2000, 554 has this wrongly as GU-21249 (Checked with SURRC 20 Nov 2002).
