Accessing Scotland's Past Project

Situated some 200m north-west of Eccles House, this walled garden was built in the first half of the nineteenth century to serve an earlier version of Eccles House.

The 1st edition of the Ordnance Survey 6-inch map, published in the 1860s, shows that the rectangular garden was divided into two sections and contained a formal arrangement of trees. Little of this layout survives, but the red brick walls, iron railings and late nineteenth century glasshouses all remain.

The garden is entered through an iron gate in the south-east corner. The only other entrance is through a timber door in the northern wall, which leads to the former gardener's cottage and the glasshouses.
