Treaty of Garlie Bank. Signed on the 13th June 1559, between the Duke of Chattelrault and Monsieur D'Oyfel commanding the army of the Queen Regent, and the Earl of Argyll and Lord James, prior of St. Andrews, leading the forces of the Congregation.

The Market Cross of Cupar was erected on Tarvit Hill (name at NO 3750 1216) to mark the spot where the treaty was signed. (This cross NO31SE 7) was later re-erected near its original site in the middle of the town of Cupar)

A H Millar 1895.

The encampment sites occur in cultivated fields. A modern monument dated 1897 stands on Tarvit Hill at NO 3754 1205 possibly on the spot where the market cross of Cupar had stood before.
