(NN 8386 0993) A bronze socketed axe, related to the Bag type (Coles 1962) was found during excavation of the Roman Fort [NN80NW 10] at Ardoch in 1896-7 at the west side of the Praetorian buildings, a few feet within the western wall, and 2ft 6ins under the present surface. National Museum of Antiquities (Accession No: FQ 294).

(Socketed axe; Leith variant of Gillespie type). Single find. Socketed axe, smooth, brittle, green trimmed, haft-ribs at bottom of socket; length 70mm, mouth 27 x 30mm, cutting edge 54mm, weight 230 gms. NMAS FQ 294.
