(NN 350 288) Holy Pool (NAT)

OS 6" map, Perthshire, 2nd ed., (1900)

The Holy Pool, opposite Stathfillan Manse, is famous for its connection with St Fillan. Until the middle of the last century insane persons were bathed in the pool.

A D Lacaille 1924.

A fairly deep pool at a sharp bend in the River Fillan, with no evidence of artificial works. The tradition of bathing insane persons in the pool is still known locally but the pool is said to have lost its power when a wild bull was thrown into it (Information from Mr A Cameron, farmer, Auchtertyre Farm, Tyndrum).

Visited by OS (E G) 4 May 1962.

The Holy Pool is at NN 3503 2880.

Visited by OS (R D) 30 April 1969.
