Archaeology Notes

NK04NE 12.05 centred 0919 4667

(Name cited as Berryhill Villa and location as NK 0919 4667). The incomplete remains of a disused military camp are situated on a gentle slope at an altitude of 40m OD.

NMRS, MS/712/98.

RAF vertical air photographs (106G/Scot/UK110, 4345-4346, 23 May 1946), show that this 'camp' is a group of Nissen and other huts set around an open area about 250m N of Berryhill Villa (NK 0910 4644). It is not known wther these huts were for accommodation or for other use.

Three air raid shelters of unknown type are extant at this site and visible on Google earth 2006 imagery. They are at NK0917 4666, NK092 64669 and NK0926 4664. They are marked as structures on the OS map.
