There are two cairns on the field of the Battle of Harlaw (NJ72SE 6). One is MacLean's Grave (presumably the burial-place of the Maclean killed by Sir Alexander Irvine of Drum during the battle) and the other is the burial-cairn of Sir Alexander himself (NJ72SE 2).

There is no local knowledge of this cairn and no visible evidence could be found. From the above description the cairn would seem to have been in the area centred at NJ 7520 2422.

Nothing is visible of this cairn, which stood in what is now a cultivated field immediately N of the early-20th century monument (NJ72SE 6.01) that was erected to mark the burial site of the MacLean who was killed by Sir Alexander Irvine in the battle of Harlaw (NJ72SE 6.00) in 1411.
