Archaeology Notes

HY41SW 135.14 c.4380 1168

No evidence could be found for a light anti-aircraft gun emplacement and a group of nine huts visible on WW II RAF vertical air photographs (NLA 16, 615-616, flown 22 June 1941), in an area between the main A965 and the group of five aircraft hangars, which were formerly part of the main technical area (HY41SW 135.02)

The circular earth banked gun-emplacement is visible on the photographs with at least nine huts of varying types. The site is still visible on postwar images (CPE/Scot/UK 188, 4174-4175, flown 10 October 1946).

Visited by RCAHMS (DE), August 1999
