A small military camp consisting of huts and tents is visible on a RAF vertical air photograph (NLA 16, 617, flown 22 June 1941, SE of a reservoir near Quarry Cottage.

The tents were replaced by more permanent huts after 1941 as they are visible on postwar air photographs (CPE/Scot/UK 188, 4174-4175, flown 10 October 1946), as Nissen type. It is not known for what purpose this camp was used.
