Archaeology Notes

HY41SW 135.07 4306 1295

No trace could be found of a pillbox visible on WW II RAF vertical air photographs (NLA 16, 617-618, flown 22 June 1941) at the S side of the junction between the A965 and the northern extension to the main airfield runway. The pillbox stood within an ovoid barbed-wire fenced enclosure.

The pillbox is still visible on 1946 imagery (CPE/Scot/UK 118, 4176-4177, flown 10 October 1946). It is not known when the structure was removed.

Visited by RCAHMS (DE), August 1999
