Six watercolour paintings made in the grounds of Pitfour House. Signed J.T.Selwin and dated 1850. Also 'Paintings of Pitfour, being History of the Fergusons, Lairds of Pitfour'. Draft typescript by J Wilson Smith, Peterhead, 1942-43. 5 vols folio.

The above purchased by North East Library Services, Old Meldrum, 1989/90.

See bibliography for extract from sale catalogue.

The Blenheim of Buchan. One of the great estates of NE Scotland, first built by the eccentric Ferguson family in the early 18th century. The house was extended, probably by John Smith c. 1809, and subsequently was demolished in 1927, its magnificent glazed veranda re-erected at the farm of Kinloch, St Fergus.

Much survives of the estate, mainly because the Fergusons spared little expense.

C McKean 1990.

Activities
