Dunbar, 8th Dec [1851]. The MARIANNE, Earl, from Rotterdam to the Clyde: the BALLOT, Reid, from Hull to the Clyde: the ALPHA, Hooper, from the Tay to Leith: the EARL OF NORTH ESK, Sime: and the ALEXANDER: both from Shields to Alloa: all parted from their anchors in the Frith during a very heavy gale from the West, and drove on shore here. The ALEXANDER took fire shortly after striking, and has burnt to the water's edge. The EARL OF NORTH ESK beat over a ridge of rocks, and is supposed to have sunk in deep water. There are also two sloops on shore near North Berwick. Crews all saved.
