(NJ 6970 4991) Church (NR) (In Ruins)
OS 6" map, Banffshire, 2nd ed., (1928)
This church was the predecessor of the present parish church, which was built in 1806.
On a stone into the S wall of it is an inscription "This church was re-edified by George Ogilvie, Master of Banff, 1692" (information from the Statistical Account [OSA] 1791-9).
Name Book 1866
All that remains of the church are the partially harled four walls levelled off to an average height of 2.6 metres. The door is in the E gable, and the N and S sides each contain a blocked-up window. The interior is overgrown with weeds and the walls covered in ivy. No trace of the inscribed stone was found; it is possibly covered by harling or ivy. The Rev A A Mullo-Weir, Forglen Manse, could not supply any additional information.
Revised at 1/2500.
Visited by OS (WDJ) 9 September 1964.
The inscribed stone has been rebuilt in the middle of the W wall on the inside, and reads 'Bamff.1652'. Otherwise, as described.
