(NS 2494 9016) FASLANE CASTLE (NR) (Site of)

OS 6" map (1923)

The castle of Faslane is said to have been built in the 12th century, and deserted before the end of the 14th century.

NSA 1845; W Fraser 1869

Traces of Faslane Castle are observable on a summit overlooking the junction of two deep glens. The castle is mentioned in various years between 1543 and 1693, and in the mid-18th century the ruins 'furnished a shelter to the last representative of a once-powerful family'.

J Irving 1879

A railway line occupies the site of this Castle. No remains now exist.
