Scope and Content Pittenweem Priory, Marygate, Pittenweem, Fife, from north-east This view from the north-east, taken in 1979, shows the west front of the former dormitory and refectory, now known as the Great House, as restored by Sir Robert Lorimer in 1921. The lower block on the right is the former Town Hall of 1821, with a late 19th-century rusticated porch. This is now a private house. The buildings ceased to be used as a priory after the Reformation in 1560, and the west range, probably the dormitory and refectory, was adapted in about 1588 as the manse of the nearby parish church, itself rebuilt from the priory church. This Augustinian priory was relocated from the Isle of May in the 13th century. The conventual buildings were reconstructed on a larger scale in the 15th century, and much of the product of that rebuilding can still be seen, though altered at various times.
