Scope and Content Inverurie Station, Aberdeenshire This shows the island platform on the east side of the station, with its large building which served Aberdeen-bound passengers, and also users of the branch-line to Oldmeldrum, whose trains used the left-hand side of the island. The main building of this station is on the north-bound platform, and is built of granite. It was refurbished in the 1980s, losing its platform awning, but retaining its splendid booking office. The island platform building seen here has been demolished. This station was originally opened in 1854 by the Great North of Scotland Railway as part of its line from Aberdeen to Huntly. Between 1898 and 1905 the railway company moved its workshops to Inverurie, and this station was rebuilt in 1902 to reflect the enhanced status of the town. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
