Scope and Content Drawing Room, Craigcrook Castle, Craigcrook Road, Edinburgh The drawing room of Craigcrook Castle was photographed in 1927 by the distinguished architectural photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere. The room lies within a large castellated drawing room extension added to the north side of the house in 1815. This room, decorated in a plain Classical style, probably doubled as a ballroom. The chimneypiece is in a late 19th-century Holyrood revival style, and the long window, fitted with a window seat, offers splendid views to the north over the garden. The drawing room extension was added when the house was the residence of Lord Jeffrey, the Scottish judge and literary critic. Here he entertained his friend and biographer, Lord Cockburn, and the Scottish authors, Sir Walter Scott and Thomas Carlyle. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
