Scope and Content Great Hall, Kildonan House, Barrhill, Ayrshire The interior of Kildonan House was photographed in c.1927 by the architectural photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere, for its owner, Captain Euan Wallace. The house, built in the style of an English manor house, was designed by the architect, James Miller. The main feature of the hall is a huge mullioned window which rises the full height of the house. The walls are lined with oak panelling, and conceal a secret door, left open (right). The books and cushions may have been carefully arranged by Lemere. Harry Bedford Lemere (1864-1944) was one of the leading architectural photographers of his day. He was a perfectionist, and spent a great deal of time arranging furniture and objects in a room until the photographic composition was right. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
