Scope and Content St Magdalene Distillery, Linlithgow, West Lothian (West Lothian council area) This was a lowland malt whisky distillery, said to have been founded by Sebastian Henderson, but certainly operated by the Dawson family from 1798 until 1912, whe it was purchased by the Distillers' Company Limited. This view shows the distillery from the Union Canal towpath, looking north east. The long range at the rear was a drum mltings, and in front of it are the main producive buildings. On the left is the gable of a maturing warehouse. The maltings closed in 1968 and the distillery in 1983. It was subsequently sold for residential development. The eastern half was converted soon afterwards, and the west maltings and warehouse block was being converted in 2001. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
