Scope and Content View of interior of postern gateway on ground floor of Duntrune Castle, Argyll and Bute Duntrune Castle consists of a three-storeyed L-plan tower and some modern ranges along the internal faces of the irregular-shaped courtyard. The tower-house dates to 1600 and was restored after 1796 and again between 1954 and 1957. Now converted to a French window, this is the postern, or sea-gate of the tower-house. Below it, rubble steps lead down to the loch. The opening, or embrasure, is arch-pointed and has a slabbed floor. There are drawbar slots at the side of the door. The external face of the postern has been reconstructed. The castle was restored after 1796 when it was bought by Neil Malcolm of Poltalloch, and was further modernised and extended between 1954 and 1957 by Colonel George Malcolm of Poltalloch.
