Scope and Content View of fireplace in drawing room of Duntrune Castle, Argyll and Bute Duntrune Castle consists of a three-storeyed L-plan tower and some modern ranges along the internal faces of the irregular-shaped courtyard. The tower-house dates to 1600 and was restored after 1796 and again between 1954 and 1957. In the drawing room there are still the remains of the late 18th-century restoration. This Classical-style chimneypiece is on the north-east wall. Carved from pine, it has pilasters decorated with reeding, or parallel convex mouldings. The central panel is decorated with foliage, reeding and a swagged urn. The cornice mantel above is dentillated, or decorated with small blocks. There is an inner white marble surround.
