Scope and Content Detail of rainwater head of Duntrune Castle, Argyll and Bute Duntrune Castle consists of a three-storeyed L-plan tower and some modern ranges along the internal faces of the irregular-shaped courtyard. The tower-house dates to 1600 and was restored after 1796 and again between 1954 and 1957. The 20th-century renovations were carried out by Colonel George Malcolm of Poltalloch and this rainwater head dates to this period of restoration. It is decorated with crenellations, reflecting those on the enclosure wall of the castle. Rainwater heads are box-shaped structures, usually made of lead or cast iron, in which water from the gutter or parapet is collected and then discharged into a downpipe.
