Scope and Content View of north front of Ardlamont House, Argyll and Bute Ardlamont was the principal residence of the Lamonts of Lamont from about 1664. In 1818 Major-General John Lamont decided, despite inherited debts, to rebuild the house 'fit for my family on the most limited and frugal plan'. This projection on the north front contains the round-arched entrance doorway, formerly a service door. In 1970 a single-storeyed lean-to portico of four Doric columns was erected. The stair-tower behind may have been remodelled in the 19th century. The present main block was built, or extensively rebuilt, in 1819-20, consisting of two storeys and a basement. On the north façade the windows are smaller than on the south façade and it is possible that the shell of the 18th-century house was preserved. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
