Scope and Content View of south front of Ardlamont House, Argyll and Bute Ardlamont was the principal residence of the Lamonts of Lamont from about 1664. In 1818 Major-General John Lamont decided, despite inherited debts, to rebuild the house 'fit for my family on the most limited and frugal plan'. The present main block was built, or extensively rebuilt, in 1819-20. It consists of two principal storeys and a partially-sunk basement. The five-bayed façade dates entirely to 1819-20, although the flanking side wings bear traces of older work. The main block has ashlar angle pilasters with capitals linked to a cornice with a stepped blocking-course above. The windows are sash and case with dressed surrounds. The porch has paired pilasters surmounted by a moulded cornice. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
