Scope and Content Relaxing in the garden at Hillside House, No 44 The Causeway, Duddingston Village, Edinburgh The Causeway is Duddingston's main street, a narrow lane which runs from the gates of the church the length of the village. It has a number of 18th- and 19th-century houses, as well as the village's only public house, the 18th-century Sheep's Heid Inn. Hillside House is a Victorian villa standing on the north side of The Causeway. It has a large south-facing garden on the side of the hill, attractively laid out with lawns and shrubs. Part of the grounds at Duddingston Manse was reclaimed from derelict ground and laid out as a lochside garden in the 1960s by Dr Andrew Neil and his wife, Nancy. It is regularly open to the public, and has featured in gardening programmes on television. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
