Scope and Content Possible monastery, Eileach an Naoimh, Garvellachs, Argyll and Bute The church established in the Irish colony of Dál Riata (Argyll) in the 6th century by Columba and others was strongly influenced by the monastic tradition as developed in Egypt and Syria. This monastic settlement includes an unusual double-beehive cell, a grave-enclosure, and a series of larger enclosures or burial grounds. To the right are the remains of a medieval church. There is also a small underground cell, a chapel and a burial-ground with a cross-marked slab, which date to the Early Christian period. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
