Scope and Content Tomintoul-Glenlivet Distillery, Banffshire This is a Scotch Malt Whisky distillery built by the Tomintoul Distillery Ltd, a joint venture between Hay & Macleod Ltd and W & S Strong, two Glasgow firms of whisky brokers. It was purchased in 1973 by Scottish & Universal Investment Trust. This view shows the clean, modern design of the distillery buildings. The simplicity of the building is more apparent than real; the proportions and detailing are very carefully considered. This distillery was built in anticipation of a shortage of whisky for blending. It originally had two stills, and a further two were added in 1974. It is now known as Tomintoul-Speyside, and belongs to JBB (Greater Europe) PLC. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
