Scope and Content Regent Mill, Bunhouse Road, Glasgow This very large roller flour mill was built in 1887-90 on the site of the Bunhouse Mills, a stone-grinding flour mill of medieval origin, owned by the Incorporation of Bakers in Glasgow. The new mills were designed by an Aberdeen architect, A Watt. This view shows the mills from the north east, with the warehouse block to the left, The top storey of the mill range and the tall wheat silo were added after 1903, when the mills were bought by the Scottish Co-operative Wholesale Society. The river Kelvin at Partick was the main milling centre for Glasgow until the steam engine made it possible to dispense with water power. In this view are three of the four important millsteads; the Bunhouse, Bishop's and Scotstoun mills (left to right). Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
