Scope and Content Charlestown Harbour, Fife This harbour is formed by four piers. The inner pair were built c1770 though the western one was rebuilt c1840. The outer piers were added later in the 19th century. This view shows the east pier of c1770. The harbour was originally formed for shipping lime from the kilns on the landward side, but was later used for coal shipment. In the inter-war and post war years it was used for shipbreaking.
