Scope and Content St Duthus Church, Castle Brae, Tain, Highland St Duthus Church was probably built as a parish church in about 1300 and superseded by the adjacent Collegiate Church in 1487. It later became a burial-aisle. Tain, Castle Brae, St Duthus's Church / Religion / / Church / DIGITAL IMAGES Burials inside churches were banned in 1581. Wealthy families got around this by converting disused religious structures into mausolea, by adding burial-aisles to churches, and, in the 17th century, by creating separate burial-enclosures.
