Scope and Content Rear of west range Pittenweem Priory, Pittenweem, Fife Pittenweem Priory was founded in the 13th century when Augustinian priors moved to the site from the Isle of May, and rebuilt in the 15th century. The surviving buildings have been substantially altered and restored since the Middle Ages. The oriel, or projecting window, in the centre of the middle block dates from the 16th century. Below, and to the left, is the door to the pend or passage to the front. To its right, the masonry projects to house a staircase. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
