Copy of B 1176

Scope and Content Whitefield, tower-house, Perth and Kinross The building date of 1577 is inscribed on the sill of the niche above the entrance at Whitefield, as photographed here. The tower-house fell into ruin at the start of the 19th century. L-plan in shape, the tower-house stands three storeys in height with a stair-turret in the west corner giving access to the upper floors. The basement is divided into two barrel-vaulted rooms with a turnpike leading to the first floor hall. Tower-houses were built in Scotland between the 14th and 17th centuries and were one of the simplest forms of fortified residence. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
