Scope and Content Interior view of triforium of New Abbey Parish Church, Dunfermline Abbey, Dunfermline, Fife Dunfermline Abbey was founded by David I in 1128 and completed in its original form in 1250. Numerous additions and alterations followed in the 14th and 15th centuries. Abandoned after the Reformation (1560), the abbey was ransacked for building stone. This is the interior of the abbey church nave. It was used as a parish church until an extension to the east end by William Burn in 1818-21. Divided into three aisles by two arcades, the nave is three-storeyed including a triforium and clerestory. This shows the upper two storeys in the nave. At the top is the clerestory, with the triforium below and the arcade at the bottom. The upper storeys are less ornate than the arcade below. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
