Scope and Content Fort and temporary camps at Ardoch, Perth and Kinross This Roman fort and temporary camps are at Ardoch. The fort had several phases of occupation. Some of the camps are earlier than the fort, others later, reflecting the different Roman campaigns in Scotland. The fort is very well preserved. This is an aerial view of the site with the fort in the upper part of the image. In places, the rampart still stands to around 2.0 m high. There are up to five outer ditches surrounding the fort. All four gates are still visible. The site has been excavated and surveyed times. The first century fort was larger than the second century forts, and had timber buildings. The garrison included the cohors I Hispanorum, originally from Spain. The later forts had some stone buildings. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
