Scope and Content Broch at Dun an Sticir, North Uist, Western Isles Dun an Sticir is built on an island in a loch. A causeway links it to a second island which is linked to either shore by two further causeways. The ruins of a later rectangular building now stand within the ruins. This view shows what is left of the broch. The entrance faces the causeway, but the lintel has now fallen down. To the right of this can be seen the remains of a guard chamber. Parts of intramural passages are also visible. The rectangular building within the broch has been linked to Hugh MacDonald, son of Archibald the Clerk. He is said to have survived here for over a year before being captured and left to die in the dungeon at Duntulm Castle. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
