Scope and Content Elevation of Dumfries Town-house, Dumfries and Galloway ('Midsteeple') Dumfries Town-house was built to provide much-needed office and prison space. Outcry over the burgh council's mishandling of the funds led to a committee of council and community overseeing the work. The resulting minute book survives. The spire looks like the ones at Glasgow College and Stirling Town-house. John Moffat drew up the Town-house's plans after looking at Glasgow College. The second architect probably modified them having visited other buildings. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
