Scope and Content Fort at Dunadd, Argyll and Bute Dunadd is rocky knoll that rises out of the flat valley floor and was one of the main centres of the Kingdom of Dalriada. It was excavated in 1904, 1929 and 1980-81. The artefacts are now in the Royal Museum of Scotland. This is a view of Dunadd from the south-east. The summit is protected by a series of walls which make skilful use of the strong natural defences. The north peak, however, does not seem to have been defended. The most recent excavations (1980-81) revealed that there were at least two phases of building in the upper fort at Dunadd. The majority of the finds were from the 6th to 9th centuries AD. These included several hundred fragments of clay jewellery moulds. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
