Scope and Content Broch at Midhowe, Rousay, Orkney The Broch of Midhowe on Rousay is built on a small promontory. The outer defences are confined to the landward side. A sea wall was built during the 1930s to put an end to the erosion which had destroyed part of the W side of the site. This is a view of the inner wall of the broch with the doorway to what would have been the first floor. This would have been a wooden structure supported by the scarcement ledge and by wooden posts in the courtyard. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
