Scope and Content Broch at Midhowe, Rousay, Orkney The Broch of Midhowe on Rousay is built on a small promontory. The outer defences are confined to the landward side. A sea wall was built during the 1930s to put an end to the erosion which had destroyed part of the W side of the site. This is a view of the intramural staircase built within the thickness of the walls of the broch. It would have led to the upper levels of the structure. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
