Scope and Content Cairn at Nether Largie (North), Argyll and Bute There are two Bronze Age cairns at Nether Largie, near Kilmartin. They stand about 150 m apart. Both the cairns were excavated between 1929-30. This is a view of the cist from Nether Largie North cairn. Two of the slabs lining the cist were decorated. One end-slab had two axe-heads carved into it. The underside of the capstone has about forty cup-marks and ten axe-heads. When the cist was excavated in 1930 it was found to contain one tooth, a few fragments of charcoal and some ochre. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
