Scope and Content Vestibule inside Aberdeen Tolbooth (1988), City of Aberdeen Aberdeen Tolbooth was built in the 17th century and modified during the next three centuries along with the surrounding buildings. Only the tower or 'wardhouse' survives from the original building. The ground floor of the tolbooth's tower was turned into a lobby when the new court-house was built to the north in 1818-20 by John Smith. The south front of the tower was remodelled at this time. A prison was added to the north of the court-house in 1831 Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
