Scope and Content Late 19th century view of Aberdeen Tolbooth, City of Aberdeen Aberdeen Tolbooth was built in the 17th century and modified during the next three centuries along with the surrounding buildings. Only the tower or 'wardhouse' survives from the original building. The south front was rebuilt in granite by Peddie and Kinnear in 1871 to match the baronial style of municipal buildings which replaced the town-house in the same year.
